Glen Avon Hockey Club

About Glen Avon

The Glen Avon Hockey team was founded in 1947 after Robert Fryberger Sr. built a rink in his yard over the family garden. Little did he know that the team would quickly gain popularity in the community and become a legendary local favorite. The team went on to win many titles and have had several players who joined the big leagues.

The Glen Avon Peewee team won the AHAUS National Championship in New York City in 1951 under the leadership of Bob Fryberger. It was a victory that boosted youth hockey in Minnesota, as thousands of Duluth citizens attended the celebration and received a key to the city. During 1952 and 1958, the team also won PeeWee national championships.

As Glen Avon has grown over the years, it has produced NHL players and Hockey Olympians while ensuring that all children are welcome to join and develop both skills and a love for the sport. From the youngest of our players starting in the learn to skate program to our most skilled players competing in our highest competition division, every skater is a part of the legacy.

Supporting Glen Avon Hockey: A Tradition Fueled by Generosity

The Glen Avon Hockey Team and its facilities are completely supported by donations from patrons, players, and their families. In the early days, our team moms created handmade sweaters for the players. These days we have participants managing our tournaments, families flooding the rinks to create skatable ice, and even volunteers manning the concession stand. All financial needs of the team and the facilities are also supported by our generous donors.

If you would like to make a financial donation to the legacy of the Glen Avon Hockey, please visit our donations page. There is an option to make a one-time donation or you can set up monthly donations. Either option is at the amount of your choosing. We thank you for your contribution in keeping this local tradition alive.
